The IERCA is serious about helping the environment. With the installation of solar panels to provide 1 megawatt of energy to power the facility, the facility avoids using over 166,000 kilowatt hours per month from the energy grid. This is equivalent to:
- Planting 20 trees each month
- Reducing harmful emissions like NOx, SOx and carbon dioxide
1 megawatt is enough energy to power up to 800 homes and produces no harmful emissions at all by harnessing clean energy from the sun.
The IERCF receives waste products from local sources, composts them into a high-quality compost and sells the compost for local use. This keeps truck traffic to a minimum which reduces pollution causing compounds released by diesel trucks that haul these materials.
The IERCF also uses 100% recycled water for all of its processing needs.
